NR is pleased to present Soushisouai Chapter 3: A Brief Sketch of Aoi

Work on the site and delays on releases should be over for now. When we formed the group, we agreed that our first priority would be translation releases, with the website basically a platform for launching said work. However, it turns out that offering something to people is sorta like holding a dinner party. You may have a fantastic evening and a wonderful meal all planned out, but you'd still feel a bit embarrassed if you hadn't tidied up the place. The house cleaning is over for now, so our next reason for delays should be new and exciting.

Chapter 2 is one of three chapters that was translated by another group, possibly Kanon. It was released under the title Itsunomanika Futari Wa(Suddenly a Couple). For your convenience, links to both are provided below.

(I've also started to pay a bit more attention and have realized that, while loosely done, these stories aren't as unconnected as previously thought. Just a fun fact.)

By the way, chapter 2 wasn't translated by a particular group x3 I translated and edited chapter 2 myself as a solo effort and uploaded it to 4chan as Anon. I did it just for fun, and to train my self-thaught japanese a bit, and it was my first and only endeavour of the sort so far. I didn't expect it to cross the globe and become the "standard" release for that chapter haha. Anyway, thanks a lot for translating the others, they're damn awesome

Aha! One mystery solved. Thanks for posting here, I was definitely curious. It's probably too late to fix our shout-out credits since the final version was released, but you know who we meant at least.

Have you ever thought about doing more in the scanlating world? Even if it's just translation, it would be a big help to a lot of groups.

In fact I have, even these last few days. I've been looking at Governess from Kenji Kishizuka (because I'm personally a big fan of his realistic style) which I believe hasn't been translated yet... I was thinking if someone was willing to edit it, I might translate it, I mean I translated it in my mind already when I was reading it... Making the edit was the most difficult part last time.

PS: Although I think the title of that doujinshi should probably be "Home Tutor".. Can't figure what Kenji was thinking when he wrote "Governess" in english below the title "Katekyo". Following the same logic present in Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, "katekyo" should be a simplified form of "kateikyoushi" which in turn means "home tutor".

Yeah, I would also go with something involving "tutor." Hage might disagree with me on this, but I don't hear "governess" used in modern language very often at all. It conjures images of a Victorian era when a woman would occasionally be appointed to take charge of another family's child's education and upbringing. Such women were called governesses. Since the tutor in Katekyo seems to be in charge of Ryuu-kun's sexual education now too, "Governess" is sort of a cute title. A little sexier than "nanny," anyway. When it comes to borrowed English words, you can always count on the Japanese to distort the meaning and have a penchant for the obscure.

Indeed, the word that comes to mind is "obscure". It puzzles me how someone who wrote such broken english on the little 2-page omake at the beggining of the doujinshi (It can't be endured anymore! It is more violent!), managed to dig up such a word for the title

The guy in the omake refers to his dick as a "Scud missile," too.
I think these mangakas have a ritual of spinning the Word-Wheel of Obscurity and throwing a dart at the moving target in order to come up with words that are more exotic.

Can you enlighten me on the meaning of one of the last bubbles on the first page of the omake?
I think it reads something like: "Because it's like this my cock will become a patriot!!"

You have it pretty much literally-correct. I would probably send it to Hage like this:

along with some notes about the word choise. This scene is trying to stress Americanism and patriotism is very American. There's also a patriot missile, but I don't think that is what this is in reference to. His cock is "standing at attention" which is also militaristic/patriotic.

the -chau ending is hard to put into English and is almost always lost in translation. It implies that it is going to happen whether he wants it to or not..."I can't help my cock from feeling Patriotic (towards my very American mom with her American boobs)"

His cock becomes a patriot => he can't help but get hard. Patriotic people show their proud love of their country and his cock is showing its love of her "American" attributes.

And since japanese borrowed words are usually abbreviations of the original (like BIRU for building or PATOKAA for patrol car), then what he said could also be interpreted along the lines of:
"Because of you my cock is like a fucking Patriot Missile System!"

... Alright, that's unlikely, but who knows, maybe he's nuts!

Well, I do tend to disagree with you outta spinal reflex... but that doesn't mean you're wrong. Back ina day, and mostly across the pond, it wasn't uncommon for wealthy families to pawn off the upbringing of their children on a pro. In recent decades it's become more vogue to raises one's own progeny, but if you have the money why not get a nanny to do the menial stuff, right?

As for the title, I'd be loathe to change something that was actually in english, even if it was more like engrish. Translation is tricky enough as it is. If Orpheus is saying that "Home Tutor" is more accurate for the Japanese, that's one thing. I wouldn't discount Hige's point that it's always possible the mangaka hit on the right english word for what he wanted. Stranger things have happened. Of course, Orph has actually read it. If "Home Tutor" fits better, you can't ask for much more than that.

I will say that "Governess" would certainly be a unique title a far as H.manga goes.

The premise is simple. A lady, which I think is still in university (because she says the reason she arrived earlier was because her lecture was cancelled) is curently giving home tutoring to a young boy. Since she arrived earlier that day, she catches him in the middle of his wanking session, and the girl of his fantasies is her. Since he can't seem to get his stiff down after that, she proceeds to give him some adult love, despite having absolutely no prior experience with men. Lovely.
